NASA-ESA Announce Collaborative Salinity Efforts
The overall goal is to produce an online environment to visualize, validate, monitor, assess and exploit salinity data sets such as those from ESA's Soil Moisture Ocean Salinity (SMOS) satellite and NASA's Aquarius and Soil Moisture Active Passive (SMAP) satellites.
The NASA-ESA potential partnership was initially identified in 2018. Agreement on technical implementation was reached at the 2019 European Geophysical Union Meeting (Vienna, Austria). A prototype web site for the joint platform is being established, capitalizing on the development of the SMOS Pilot-Mission Exploitation Platform (SMOS Pi-MEP).
