Passive-Active L- and S-Band (PALS) Sensor - Aircraft Validation

Alt Tag: Passive-Active L- and S-band (PALS) sensor - Aircraft validation.
Description: Aircraft validation of the Passive-Active L- and S-band (PALS) sensor occurred during flights over Monterey Bay (California) in 2000 and 2003. These experiments were conducted over a range of longitudes (37 to 37.4 degrees) and salinity (31 to 35 on the Practical Salinity Scale, PSS, roughly equivalent to parts per thousand). Salinity data taken aboard ship are shown in blue. Orange data show salinity that are NOT corrected for sea surface roughness. Purple data show salinity that are corrected for sea surface roughness. These corrected purple data show a good correlation with shipboard salinity measurements. Credit: Yi Chao.
